I hate it when white women like to act like they’re not white when they claim to be Jewish. Ummm, you’re white, and being Jewish doesn’t hide your white privilege, it actually makes you more privilege. Being Jewish doesn’t make you a Women of Colour when most Jews are BEYOND white passing.
Jews in the United States and Europe are FAR overrepresented in banking, the media, the justice system, government, ect. Jews also played a huge role in the slave trade where most of the slave ships were Jewish owned. If anything being Jewish is a privilege which has historically and still is favoring their own and benefiting off the struggles of People of Colour which has aided white supremacy. If you’re jewish and want to aid people of colour in their struggles and rape, check your privilege and call out people you know for their racism, sexism, misogyny, ect.Sit. Your. Sorry. Ass. Down.
As a blonde, blue-eyed Jew with an Anglo last name living in metropolitan America I have undeniable white passing/white privilege. But my Jewish friends with dark curly hair, “swarthy” skin, and “Semitic” noses? My friends with last names like Weber and Katz and Rosen? They don’t pass in America, let alone in Europe (and I feel 100% confident in stating that you know jack-all about how Europeans view race, but spoiler alert: Jews definitely don’t make the white people shortlist there, light skinned or not). Ever notice how white supremacist groups always include Jews on their list of “enemies of the white race?” Or how the place where Jews are really overrepresented is in hate crime victim statistics? Millennia of rape and forced assimilation in diaspora may have lightened some of our skins (fun fact: many Jews, including many Ashkenazim, are people of color), but neither we nor white Gentiles have forgotten that our ethnicity and culture stem from the Levant.
It is absolutely mindblowing that you are using antisemitic falsehoods to deny that antisemitism exists. Far from controlling the slave trade, Jews were in fact barred by law from even entering many of the countries involved in the trade and were barred from or limited in engaging in international trade venues by several others. That is a canard heavily promoted in the black community by black antisemitic groups in the 90s, and has been utterly discredited by historians. And you’re going to pull out that antisemitic “Jews control the media, banks, and government!!!!!11!” bullshit, too? Really? Put down the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and read up on the “model minority” myth—and while you’re at it, take a look at how well financial success has shielded Jews from marginalization and violence in the past.
Were Jews often used post-Civil War as racial go-betweens and tools of white oppression against the black community? Yes, and it’s fucking shameful…but when those Jewish minstrel performers, shop owners, and slumlords went home in the evenings, it was to Jewish-only communities. Not because we chose to live there, but because white Gentiles didn’t accept us in their neighborhoods. We were “white” enough to do the jobs white people didn’t want to dirty their hands with, but not white enough to live with or go to social clubs with, God forbid. The entire reason colleges began requiring interviews and essays from admission applicants was to limit the number of Jews on campus, because we’re just so fucking privileged to be Jewish. The U.S. sent Jewish asylum-seekers and refugees fleeing the Holocaust back to Europe and refused to lift the immigration quota on Jews during WWII because it didn’t want any more white people.
Whiteness/white-passingness is a privilege (and yes, we Jews who have it need to be conscious of it). But Jewishness is NOT A PRIVILEGE, least of all “historically.” We look out for “our own” because Gentiles—white or otherwise—sure as fuck won’t.

The East Asian women + colored hair trope

Looking at the pictures above, it’s pretty easy to find the similarities. East Asian women with dyed purple/blue/red hair, usually in a streak. No matter how you look at this, this is an uncomfortably specific trend in media. Yeah, it looks cute, but after seeing this over and over again, it becomes a boring, racist trope. This originated from a variety of possibilities: the creators trying to “Americanize” the East Asian character, make them more “exotic”, or to show how unique this character is. She’s not a giggling schoolgirl or a delicate lotus flower, she’s different! See, she has a streak of purple hair (god forbid she dyes it any other color), look how radical that is, look at our modern Dragon Lady!
And yes, Knives dyed her hair to look like Ramona, and yes, Somni-451’s hair is like that to mark her as a clone, but these characters do not exist in a vacuum. You can justify why a character has a specific appearance, but in the end, this character was created, and contributes to stereotypes no matter the intent.
So the moral of this story is that your Asian character with a strip of purple hair isn’t original. It isn’t unique. No matter how innocent this appears to be, it can be detrimental to East Asian girls, since the characters that look like them have the same exact traits. It’s time to explore different ways of designing East Asian characters, instead of just slapping on some purple and calling it a day.

In the middle ages, it was a sin for a Christian to hoard or handle large amounts of money, which left the profitable banking industry open to Jews. It’s ridiculous that Christians created the stereotype to avoid a sin, and this stereotype is still portrayed and spread today

glegrumbles, is this pretty much the summary of whatever sources you were going to pull out on the matter of stereotypical witch appearances being derived from anti-Semitic stereotypes?
Sort of. It touches a bit on some of it, but it goes preeeeetty damn deep. And it’s very frustrating to try to track down scholarly resources on it because it does tend to get shoved under the rug. I was having a conversation with some friends and thetwistedrope about it, trying to gather up what I can find.
But there’s a lot of folkloric racism and Othering. In fairy tales, in folklore about supernatural things and witches. Jewish people were heavily associated with magic, but there was a lot of… well, “let’s take their neat stuff but also we still don’t like these people and will oppress them” stuff that happened. (Look at all the historical Western Tradition magic that draws on Jewish ideas and culture, but continued to have no problem shitting on Jewish people and culture as a whole.) A lot of people don’t know the coded things they’re looking at, just like they miss references to other racist things in society and popular culture.
And being blissfully ignorant and perpetuating this stuff, I shouldn’t even have to say, is not in any way, shape, or form a good or ok thing. Most especially because anti-semitism is visibly on the rise. It’s not a blast from the old-timey past that is interesting but not relevant anymore. It’s still very much relevant today, not just in Europe but all over the place, including in the USA and Canada.
And one thing I’ve noticed, since starting to track this: it doesn’t get talked about. People who reblog stuff about anti-semitism and anti-semitic crimes tend to be… pretty much only Jewish community members, and other SJ blogs ignore it. Posting gets you crickets. (And I’m guilty of this as well, not reblogging some of the stuff that goes past on my dash. This is something I need to change.)

So… yes. This is an issue I am very much paying attention to.
I’ve got mixed feelings about making fun of Lorde, y’know?
Because there are legitimate criticisms to be had of her songs/messages (like this), and there are ‘white people have no rhythm’ jokes, which are totally harmless.
But there are a lot of white folks making fun of her appearance (which is weird because, like, have you seen you?). A lot of men, especially. Most of these people are older than her. She’s seventeen. If you’re not coming from a place of mocking the euro-centric beauty standards she embodies (which the white people mocking her definitely aren’t), then you’re coming from a place of misogyny- “She’s not pretty (and women are required to be pretty)”
And most of the jokes center around the way she moves, uses facial expressions, and emotes. And let me tell you something: If you look at Lorde and see ‘odd’ movement, that is because you are trained to only accept allistic physical mannerisms. The way Lorde rocks and contorts her body, struggles to find the ‘right’ facial expressions, and physically interacts with other people are all autistic/neurodivergent traits. I’m not saying Lorde is autistic, because I have no clue if she is or not, but I’m saying that she moves like a lot of us move, and to make fun of her for that is to say that only allistic movement/physical carriage is acceptable.
tl;dr: If you’re making fun of Lorde, you should really think about what place you’re coming from, because a lot of the time it’s either misogyny or ableism
I brought up Ferguson to my dad and he defended the police, made me watch the video of the store robbery, and said that the riots are to further a (and I quote) “pro-black anti-government agenda”
people want ashkenazim to be white so bad because they realized that most of the achievements by “white” scientists where Ashkenazi doctors that where denied by the mainstream scientific community for being Jews.
This is an enormous trend in scientific racism that has applied to a variety of North African, Middle Eastern, Caucasian (as in, literally from the Caucasus, not as a euphemism for white European), East African, South Asian, and Central Asian cultures. Arrogate the undeniable accomplishments of a non-Western culture in the name of white Europeans just because of some pseudoscientific racist nonsense about skulls or facial structure, but continue to treat people from those cultures as inferior or subhuman, loot and colonize their lands, steal their natural resources, drop bombs on them, enact genocide against them.
Not really up to providing sources or examples but following the links in this Wikipedia infobox on scientific racism will provide some, if you have the stomach for it.

Every officer in this area, from the Newton Division, knows that — that this child has mental problems.”In south LA, a cop was responding to a call on a disturbance in the area.Ezell Ford was walking down the street with his mom when the cop told him to get on the ground. He did. As he was on the ground, complying with police orders, the cop shot him in the back. Ezell died during emergency surgery.
